Nearly 300 knives and swords have been given in during a police amnesty across Nottinghamshire.

Nottinghamshire Police say they have had some 'very nasty looking' knives handed in as part of an amnesty across the county.

Almost 300 knives and swords have been handed in, including five samurai swords and a blade hidden inside a walking stick.

Assistant Chief Constable Simon Torr from Nottinghamshire Police told ITV News Central that the knives that have been handed in are capable of causing serious injury.

The weapons collected since October were on display today.

They include five samurai swords and a blade hidden inside a walking stick.

Officers have described the amnesty as a success, but are still urging people to hand their dangerous weapons in.
