A man who who died on a kayaking trip in Wales has been named as Gareth Lockyer from Warwick

Family of kayaker found dead thank emergency services

The family of 34-year-old Gareth Lockyer, who died after kayaking in Wales, have thanked emergency services in a statement issued via Dyfed Powys Police.

Gareth was a keen kayaker, mountain biker and hill walker. He was a member of the cub scouts and then the scouts which is where he started canoeing.

Five years ago, he joined Leamington Spa Canoe Club because he wanted to meet new people. He would go away very regularly to kayak around the UK, often with his partner Emma, on various trips with the club, most often to North Wales and Dartmoor.

Gareth had never been in that section of the River Usk before but he was excited about coming to Wales.

Relatives of 34-year-old Gareth Lockyer from Warwick who died after kayaking in mid Wales have issued a heartfelt message of thanks to emergency workers who tried to save his life.

He was reported missing at the weekend after going out on a boating trip on the River Usk, in Powys.

Family pay tribute to 'kind, caring and gentle' kayaker

The family of a missing kayaker have described him as "kind, caring and gentle" following the discovery of a body earlier today.

Gareth Lockyer, 34, was an "adventurous son" who "always watching out for other people and putting others before himself".

He was a keen kayaker, mountain biker and hill walker who had lived with his partner Emma in the Warwick area for the last six years.

He regularly went away to kayak around the UK but had never been in that section of the River Usk before, the statement said.

His family thanked the emergency services involved in the search for him.
