The M1 motorway at junction 21A has been re-opened after a fatal collision this morning.
The collision occurred just after 8am on the M1 motorway in the parish of Kirby Muxloe and involved a Scania LGV, Ford Anglia, Ford Ka and a Mazda MX5.
The passenger in the Ford Anglia, a woman, received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The M1 Southbound is closed with queueing traffic, and long delays due to a serious accident between J22 A50 / A511 Coalville and J21 M69 / A563 Leicester, congestion on M1 to J23 A512 Loughborough.
Diversions are in place, people are asked to follow the 'hollow black square' symbol via A50 towards Leicester, staying with the A50 beyond A46 , and at Glenfield Hospital take A563 (South) towards M1 J21.
Three people have been injured in a four-vehicle crash on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire this morning.
The crash happened shortly after 8am on the southbound carriageway, near Leicester Forest East services.
Police are warning motorists to avoid the area as the road is closed at junction 21A for Kirby Muxloe, and is likely to stay closed until midday at the earliest.
Diversions are in place.
Speaking from the scene, Det Cons Paul Bingham asked for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to call 101.
