A man from Nuneaton who was given a 20 year jail sentence earlier this year for raping a mother in 1992, has admitted attacking another woman ten years later.

Mark Anthony Harrison appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday charged with attempted rape, indecent assault and actual bodily harm.

They relate to an attack on a 26-year-old woman which he carried out as she walked along Manor Court Road in Nuneaton, on Saturday 24 August 2002.

The 43-year-old admitted all three charges and was returned to prison to await sentencing.

This is all about the courage and bravery shown by two women at the time of these horrific attacks and every day thereafter. I can not begin to understand what these strong women have had to deal with over the years.

– Detective Inspector Pete Hill, Warwickshire Police

Harrison was arrested in June 2013 for the attack in 1992 after a cold case investigation. Following that arrest, DNA was taken which also linked him to the most recent attack.

He appeared at Warwick Crown Court in December over the 1992 attack, where he denied rape and grievous bodily harm. But he was unanimously found guilty, and was handed a total of 20 years behind bars.

The jury were told a mother in her early 30s had gone out for the evening with friends on 7 February 1992, but headed home alone while others stayed out.

She went down Edward Street, where Harrison lived, and was attacked from behind.

As a result of the attack, her upper jaw was crushed and she also lost two teeth.
