Dementia UK spokesman, Dave Bell, says the events on the M6 Toll on Tuesday night was a terrible situation for both the driver and his family.

A man with dementia was stopped when driving the wrong way along the motorway, as police crashed into him.

Dave Bell says the charity gets called for a number of different situations regarding driving with the condition.

Police have released dramatic footage of the moment a man with Alzheimer's driving the wrong way down the M6 Toll crashed into a police patrol car.

The car was reported travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway on Tuesday evening at around 10pm.

Officers stopped the 77-year-old's Honda Jazz between junctions T4 and T5.

In the video the police can be heard nervously saying the car was going to hit them, before a loud crash can be heard.

The man had earlier been reported missing by his family in Rowley Regis and was returned home unharmed.

It's been revealed that the car police had to crash into as it was travelling the wrong way on the M6 toll was being driven by a pensioner suffering from dementia.

Officers stopped the 77-year-old's Honda Jazz between junctions T4 and T5.

He had earlier been reported missing by his family in Rowley Regis and was returned home unharmed.

Traffic police have been forced to ram a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction along the M6 Toll this evening.

Police received a high number of calls at around 10pm, and the Central Motorway Police Group responded in numbers.

The car was reported travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway.

Police tweeted saying the incident was resolved using 'tactical contact', but one officer was slightly injured. No members of the public were hurt.
