Police believe a body found in woodland in Stoke-on-Trent is that of missing man Paul Woodcock.

He had been reported missing from his home in Meir on 9th August.

The body was found in woods close to football pitches off Whittle Road in Meir yesterday morning.

A post-mortem examination proved inconclusive and further tests will be carried out over the coming weeks to establish the cause of death.

The two men arrested in connection with the death have been released without charge.

Two men have been arrested after a body was found in Stoke-on-Trent.

Police have also confirmed in the last few minutes that the body is that of a man.

A 41-year-old and 26-year-old are being questioned by officers.

Police were called to woodland, near to football fields, on Whittle Road, in Meir at 10:15am this morning.

The area remains cordoned off.

Police say human remains have been found close to football fields in Meir in Stoke-on-Trent.

Officers and forensic investigators are at the scene on Whittle Road after being called at 10:15am this morning.

A police spokesman said: "The scene and a number of approaches to it have been cordoned off, for officers to assess the situation and begin their inquiries there. We expect work to continue at the scene. "
