A third person has been arrested over the murder of a woman in Smethwick.

Police investigating the murder of a woman in Smethwick have named the woman as Glynis Bensley, 48, who lived locally.

Man to appear in court accused of Smethwick murder

A man accused of murdering Glynis Bensley, from Smethwick, has been remanded in custody.

Zoheb Majib of Cheshire Road was arrested by police in the Highgate area of Birmingham on Thursday night.

The 20-year-old appeared before Wolverhampton magistrates today where he was ordered to appear before the city’s crown court on Monday.

Glynis Bensley was found in Cheshire Road last Wednesday, just before midnight. A post-mortem examination found she died of head injuries.

Glynis Bensley was found in Cheshire Road last Wednesday, just before midnight. A post-mortem examination found she died of head injuries.

The 20-year-old local man was arrested yesterday and is being questioned by officers today.

A 13-year-old boy has already been charged with the 47-year-old woman's murder, and has been remanded into secure accommodation. He is due to appear at Crown Court today.

A 14-year-old boy remains on bail while police continue their investigations.

Glynis Bensley was found on Cheshire Road just before midnight last Wednesday.

A post mortem examination found she had died form a head injury.

The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, will appear at Sandwell Youth Court this morning.

The teenager is the second person to be arrested in connection with the death of Glynis Bensley, who was found on Cheshire Street just before midnight last Wednesday.

A 14-year-old boy who was previously arrested has been released on bail.

A post mortem examination has found that the 47-year-old had died as a result of a head injury.

Ms Bensley was found collapsed on Cheshire Road just before 11.50pm on 3rd September. She was pronounced dead by medical staff at the scene.

A post mortem examination confirmed she died from a head injury.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested at an address in the area last Thursday afternoon and was released on conditional bail the following day while enquiries continue.

DCI Sam Ridding, from Force CID, said:

We are still piecing together all of the information we have gathered to determine Glynis' last movements and what led to her tragic death.

Our thoughts remain with Glynis' family and friends who are devastated by what has happened and specially trained officers are working with them at this time.

Smethwick murder: Teenager released on police bail

A 14-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found in a street has been released on police bail.

West Midlands Police said the teenager, who was detained on Thursday in Smethwick, near Birmingham, has been freed on conditional bail pending further inquiries.

Police have yet to release the name of a 48-year-old woman who was found dead in Cheshire Road, Smethwick, at around 11.50pm on Wednesday.

A 14-year-old boy remains in police custody this morning after he was arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a woman's body in Smethwick.

Officers were called to Cheshire Road just before midnight on Wednesday.

A 48-year-old woman was confirmed dead at the scene.

The teenager was arrested at a nearby address yesterday evening.

Teenage boy arrested over Smethwick murder

A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in a Smethwick street.

The 14-year-old was arrested from a house in the area around Cheshire Street, where the 48-year-old was found, at 4pm this afternoon.

Det Ch Insp Sam Ridding appealed for anyone with information to get in touch, and said extra patrols were being carried out in the area to reassure the community.

The woman has yet to be formally identified. A forensic post mortem will be carried out in the coming days to establish cause of death.
