Five people dead after shop explosion in Leicester

Five people have died and four people are in hospital after an explosion on Hinckley Road in Leicester.

Emergency services said they do not believe there are any survivors in the wreckage of the blast.

Officers says it may be some time before the bodies can be formally identified, because of the devastation caused by the explosion and subsequent fire.

Emergency teams reacting to tonight's Leicester explosion have confirmed six people have been taken to hospital.

Two of the six people taken to hospital are in a critical condition, the other four are "walking wounded".

Teams have described tonight's events as a "tragic incident".

Emergency teams have confirmed four people are in a critical condition in hospital in Leicester after an explosion. It happened around 7pm on Sunday evening on Hinckley Road.

Leicestershire Police officers have confirmed that people had been evacuated from businesses and homes nearby. They've been taken to a nearby police station as a temporary measure.
