Stoke-on-Trent's first academy officially opens today. The Co-operative Academy of Stoke-on-Trent was launched in 2010 and cost £23million and is built on the site of the former Brownhills Maths and Computing College.
The Academy is the first to open in Stoke-on-Trent, under the former Government's Building Schools or the future scheme. The new building has been created to provide students with state-of-the-art facilities that are the best in the region.
Teachers at the Kimberley School in Nottingham are expected to strike for a second time today, over plans to turn the school into an academy. Members of the National Union of Teachers will strike for two days, with a further three strike days planned for next week.
