Dogs Home braced for influx of Christmas dogs

Staff at Birmingham Dogs Home are braced for a busy New Year as they expect a surge in the number of pets being dumped or abandoned in the weeks following Christmas.

A dogs home has seen a huge rise in the number of Staffordshire bull terrier or similar dogs being abandoned since a new law came in which could see dangerous dog owners jailed. Most of the dogs in one dog home are Staffordshire or similar.

Of almost 150 dogs abanoned this month just 19 have been claimed by their owners.
