SMMT: 'Jaguar Land Rover has driven West Midlands revival'

Paul Everitt, Chief Executive, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), has told ITV News Central that there has been a revival around the West Midlands which has been driven by the success of Jaguar Land Rover.

This comes after the SMMT announced that 2012 was a record year for UK car manufacturing, with 1.2 million cars being sent overseas.

Record year for UK car manufacturing

Car manufacturing in the UK broke all-time export records last year, with the number of cars sent overseas exceeding 1.2 million, up 8% on the same time in 2011.

Total vehicle output also increased 8% in 2012 to 1.58 million units, the highest level since 2008.

Car output rose 9% to 1.46 million units, ending the year with a 6% rise.

2012 was a very good year for UK car production with record levels of exports and volumes at their highest since 2008.

The outlook for 2013 remains positive with demand in many faster growing global markets offsetting the continued weakness in European economies.
