More than 1500 people have applied for just six jobs at a new Costa Coffee shop in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire.
Over 1,700 people have applied for just eight jobs at a new coffee shop opening in Nottingham.
Coffee shop chain Costa said it was shocked after receiving the huge number of applications for the positions which were advertised in December.
The positions are for three full-time and five part-time posts which pay between £6.10 and £10 per hour at the shop which is due to open this Friday.
A Costa Coffee spokesperson said the applicants included new graduates to former managers, who were 'obviously overqualified' for the positions as well as employees of struggling high-street stores such as HMV and Clinton Cards, both of which have called in administrators.

The coffee chain also received applications from former employees of HMV and Clinton Cards, who were both forced to call in administrators.
