There are calls for the leader of Leicestershire County Council, David Parsons, to resign over allegations about his expenses.

The allegations relate to trips taken to Europe to attract new business to the county.

Cllr Parsons is accused of spending more than £5,000 and failing to pay it back to the council.

An all party group met & reported that the matter should be passed to the Standards Committee.

In a statement to ITV Central, Dr Sarah Hill, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats in Leicester said:

"This report has shown the full scale of Mr Parsons breach of the Members Code of Conduct."

"Clearly Mr Parsons has to accept that his position as leader is now completely untenable and the Conservative party need to face up to their responsibilities to force Mr Parsons out."

Mr Parsons is due to be interviewed later today by ITV Central when he will be given the opportunity to respond to the allegations.
