Parents' plan to change Down's syndrome misconception in Asian communities

The parents of a disabled child are planning to work with the Asian community in Leicestershire to break down the barriers and misconceptions about living with Down's syndrome.

The mother of Fatima Sabat was unsure about Down's syndrome when her daughter was born.

Fatima is fit and well, and her parents are now trying to educate the community.

Mansfield artist sells painting for Down's Syndrome Awareness Week

Budding artist Katie Rickersey, has sold her first painting following four years of art classes.

Katie, who lives with Down's syndrome, is selling her work and donating the money to the Heart & Sold project, which inspires people with Down's syndrome to take up visual arts.

She told ITV News Central that she loves going to classes.

Katie Rickersley, an artist with Down's Syndrome, is selling off her recent paintings to raise money for Down's Syndrome Awareness Week.

Katie, 32, from Mansfield, has been painting for four years and has now sold her first work of art.

The painting, called 'Summertime', was put on display in Macclesfield at an exhibition for artists with Down's syndrome. The event was run by Heart & Sold. She was one of 10 artists to have her work chosen.

Every year Down's Syndrome Association targets one aspect of living with the condition. This year it's raising awareness of the poor visual acuity in Down's syndrome and the impact is has upon daily life.
