Staff and families at a children's hospice in Leicestershire are taking part in a 24 hour swimathon in memory of a local woman who died trying to swim the English Channel.

Susan Taylor from Barwell got into difficulty a mile off the French coast as she neared the end of the challenge last July.

She was raising money for Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough.

Today staff, patients and parents are attempting to swim more than 15,000 lengths of a small hydrotherapy pool - the equivalent of swimming the length of the River Soar, 59 miles.

They're hoping to raise £1000 for the hospice which next year is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
