Arrests after armed robbery

Five people have been arrested following an armed robbery at a jeweller's in Sparkhill.

Ten thieves armed with bats and hammers threatened staff at Gold City on Stratford Road just before 5pm on Saturday (5 January).

They stole thousands of pounds worth of jewellery before escaping.

“After viewing CCTV it is clear that the area was busy with shoppers and passers-by at the time of the robbery and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

“One of the shop assistants gave chase and was assaulted, fortunately he only sustained minor cuts and bruises, but this could have been far more serious.“If you know something that could help our investigation, then please do the right thing and call me or one of my team.”
