Children's recovery centre in Savile abuse investigation

Jimmy Savile's links with a recovery home for children are being investigated, Health Minister Norman Lamb has revealed.

Woodhouse Eaves Children's Convalescent Home in Leicester has become the 33rd health institution to be subject to an NHS examination, with Savile's connections to 32 hospitals already under review.

The final reports for all the investigations are expected to be completed by June, Mr Lamb said.

Former Top Of The Pops presenter Savile is thought to have used his position to abuse vulnerable patients, many of them children, at the hospitals.

Three major investigations were launched at Leeds General Infirmary, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Broadmoor Hospital after details first emerged about cases of alleged abuse by Savile.


Report reveals Jimmy Savile carried out 8 offences in the Midlands

A report by police and the NSPCC into abuse by TV presenter Jimmy Savile has revealed he carried out 8 criminal offences in the Midlands.

The report says Savile carried out one offence in Derbyshire and 7 in Nottinghamshire, including one at the Saxondale Mental Health Hospital in 1971. It suggests abuse spanned from 1955 to 2009, covering his entire career at the BBC.

Freddie Starr bailed again

Freddie Starr the comedian who lives in Warwickshire has been bailed for the second time after being questioned by police investigating the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal.

Starr been publicly implicated in the Savile scandal over the past month but has strongly denied the accusations.

The 69-year-old returned to speak to officers earlier today having been first arrested on Thursday on suspicion of sexual offences, and then bailed in the early hours of Friday morning.

His next bail date has not yet been revealed by Scotland Yard.

Starr released early this morning

A force spokesman said the suspect was released on bail between 1am and 1.30am on Friday morning. The date when he must represent himself to officers is yet to be released by Scotland Yard.

The police spokesman said the arrest falls under the investigation termed "Savile and others".

Freddie Starr Bailed

Comedian Freddie Starr from Warwickshire has been released on police bail after being questioned by detectives investigating allegations of sexual abuse surrounding Jimmy Savile.

A man named by sources as Starr, 69, was arrested in Warwickshire yesterday on suspicion of sexual offences before being released during the early hours of this morning.

Starr denies all the allegations against him.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police reads:

"Officers working on Operation Yewtree have this evening, 1 November, arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation.

"The man, from Warwickshire, was arrested at approximately 17.45 hrs on suspicion of sexual offences, and has been taken into police custody locally.

"The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed 'Savile and others'."

Freddie Starr arrested

It has been confirmed that Freddie Starr has been arrested.

Met Police said a man in his 60s from Warwickshire was arrested at approximately 17:45 on suspicion of sexual offences and taken into custody.

This is the second arrest in Operation Yewtree, the investigation termed 'Saville and others.'

Gary Glitter, the first arrest, was held on Sunday.

Starr denies all the allegations against him.

Freddie Starr denies wrongdoing after being accused of groping a teenager

The comedian Freddie Starr, who lives in Studley in Warwickshire, has denied any wrong doing after claims he groped a teenager at a recording of one of Jimmy Savile's shows.

Karin Ward - who's from Shropshire - was 14 at the time of the recording.

Initially Freddie Starr denied ever being on the same show as the teenager but since then footage has been released showing Freddie Starr sitting inches from her on Jimmy Savile's show Clunk Clink.

His lawyers have said that Freddie Starr was mistaken about his presence at the show but that he "vigorously" denied groping the school girl.
