MP sparks 'sexist' Twitter war: "shut up and be a good girl"
A 'Twitter war' was sparked after a Labour MP tweeted referring to an interview given by former Midlands MP Louise Mensch's husband in which he claimed his wife resigned from her Corby post because of fear of defeat at the next election.
Louise Mensch quickly corrected her husband stating he reason for stepping down was to spend more time with her family in New York.
The MP for Grimsby Austin Mitchell sent a public reply:
Shut up Menschkin.A good wife doesn't disagree with her master in public and a good little girl doesn't lie about why she quit politics
From @AVMitchell2010 on Twitter:Mrs Mensch was quick to retweet the message and call for an apology from party leader Ed Milliband and deputy Harriet Harman.
She also tweeted saying that a private company would not tolerate such a comment.
No private company would tolerate a man saying "a good wife doesn't disagree with her master in public" Let's what Labour will do #feminism
From @LouiseMensch on Twitter:Mr Mitchell later defended his tweet by saying he was being ironic.
