Police appeal 21 years after graveyard murder

Twenty one years to the day since the body of a Birmingham woman was found in a churchyard in Cheshire, police are appealing for information about her death.

31-year-old Tracey Mertens from Nechells in Birmingham was doused in petrol and set alight in Eaton churchyard near Congleton on 23 December 1994.

She sustained horrific burns to her body and died 12 days later.

Officers from Cheshire Constabulary's Major Crime Directorate are urging anyone who may have information in relation to her murder to get in touch.

Officers have released CCTV relating to an investigation of a serious assault outside Samras Club in Caldmore Green, Walsall.

The 19-year-old was approached by two unknown men while waiting for a taxi. The man asked the group of people to "back off" after remarks were made to the woman he was with. The men then went on to attack the victim, resulting in a broken jaw.

The incident took place at 3:30am on 2 November.
