Man charged over poppy tin thefts

A 28-year-old man has been charged with five counts of theft in connection with the theft of Royal British Legion poppy collection boxes and other items.

The collection tins were allegedly stolen from different locations in Loughborough, Ashby and Shepshed between the 6th and 12th November.

He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Hinckley Magistrates Court today (Thursday 15th November 2012).

Derby actor Jack O'Connell has launched the British Legion's Poppy Appeal in his home city.

O'Connell stars as Private Charlie Peaceful in the newly released film adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's book, which is based on the First World War.
