Prince Edward enjoyed an upbeat official opening of De Montfort University's Leisure Centre in Leicester today, named in honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
As he toured the facilities, his father, the Duke of Edinburgh, was undergoing exploratory stomach surgery at a clinic in London. Our correspondent Alison Mackenzie reports.
Prince Edward was due to officially open a new £8 million leisure centre in Leicester today. However due to the severe weather he has had to postpone his visit.
HRH was due to open the centre at De Montfort University.
Prince Edward will officially open a leisure centre commemorating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee later.
The centre in Leicester cost £8 million to build and has state of the art facilities.
