Couple jailed over son's methadone death, full report

A couple from Derbyshire whose two-year-old son died after drinking methadone prescribed to his mother have been jailed for his manslaughter. Riley Pettipierre's parents found him lifeless at their home after he drank the heroin substitute from a child's beaker.

Parents sentenced to prison after toddler drinks methadone

A couple whose two-year-old son died after drinking his mother's methadone in Derbyshire have been sentenced to a total of eleven-and-a half years in prison.

Heroin addict Sally Dent, 33, and Shaun Binfield, 45, were found guilty of the manslaughter of Riley Pettipierre after he died at the family's flat in Belper last March.

Mother Sally Dent was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison and father Shaun Binfield was sentenced to four years.

A mother and her partner are due to be sentenced later, after being convicted for the manslaughter of a toddler.

Two-year-old Riley Pettipierre, from Belper in Derbyshire, died after drinking the drug methadone. Sally-Anne Dent and Shaun Binfield were found guilty of causing his death in January 2013.

The sentencing is taking place at Nottingham Crown Court.
