Musician Ronnie Palmer from the Note Benders said that what made Andy Hamilton stand out was the fact that he achieved international fame when he was in his seventies - when most people would normally be winding down their careers.

A free concert was held to celebrate the life of Andy Hamilton at Symphony Hall. The jazz musician moved to Birmingham in 1949 from Jamaica and was a regular performer at the venue.
The event was compered by Dr Carl Chinn and featured tributes from a number of Birmingham's most notable figures.

The Director of Symphony Hall in Birmingham says he is "immensely proud" after being awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours. It comes in the year Symphony Hall celebrates its 21st anniversary.
Andrew Jowett was appointed Director in 1988 - three years before Symphony Hall opened.

The Symphony Hall in Birmingham has celebrated its 21st birthday today with a special concert. Since its opening in 1991, it's hosted more than seven thousand concerts and has achieved global recognition.
