A refrigeration installation and servicing company in Leicester, which serves some of the UK’s leading supermarkets, has gone into administration and faces imminent closure, putting more than 600 jobs at risk.
WR Refrigeration in Thurmaston, which employs more than 600 staff across the UK, has suffered heavy financial problems in recent difficult trading conditions leading to HM Revenue and Customs issuing a winding-up petition this month as the company search for funding.
A man has been arrested in Leicestershire after an overnight siege which lasted more than ten hours. Officers were called to a house on Manston Close in Thurmaston last night, after reports that shots were fired.
No one else was in the house at the time. Several shots, believed to be from an air rifle, were fired at officers. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill.

Leicestershire Police have released the following statement after an armed man fired a gun and locked himself inside a house in Thurmaston this evening,
Police were called at 5.11 pm today (Thursday 6th June 2013) following reports that a firearm had been discharged in the garden of a property on Manston Close in Leicester.
When firearms officers arrive at the scene a man had locked himself into the property. In the interests of public safety people living in local properties have been asked to stay indoors and the road has been closed to traffic. Specialist officers are currently dealing with the situation.
It’s not thought anyone else is in the property. There are no more details at the moment.
