A refrigeration installation and servicing company in Leicester, which serves some of the UK’s leading supermarkets, has gone into administration and faces imminent closure, putting more than 600 jobs at risk.

A man has been arrested in Leicestershire after an overnight siege which lasted more than ten hours. Officers were called to a house on Manston Close in Thurmaston last night, after reports that shots were fired.

No one else was in the house at the time. Several shots, believed to be from an air rifle, were fired at officers. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill.

Man arrested after siege

Police in Leicestershire have arrested a 37-year-old man after a seige which lasted more than 10 hours. Officers were called to the house in Manston Close in Thurmaston at 5.10pm yesterday evening after reports that shots were fired.

No-one else was in the house at the time and the man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill. Several shots, believed to be from an air rifle, were fired at officers during the incident.

A number of roads remain closed as police deal with a siege situation in Thurmaston in Leicestershire.

Police were called to Manston Close shortly after 5.00pm this evening after reports gunshots were fired.

Armed seige in Thurmaston - Police statement

Leicestershire Police have released the following statement after an armed man fired a gun and locked himself inside a house in Thurmaston this evening,

Police were called at 5.11 pm today (Thursday 6th June 2013) following reports that a firearm had been discharged in the garden of a property on Manston Close in Leicester.

When firearms officers arrive at the scene a man had locked himself into the property. In the interests of public safety people living in local properties have been asked to stay indoors and the road has been closed to traffic. Specialist officers are currently dealing with the situation.

It’s not thought anyone else is in the property. There are no more details at the moment.

Leicestershire Police have confirmed they're in attendance at a property in Thurmaston at a 'firearms' incident.

Police say they were called to a property in Manston Close at 5.11pm after reports of a gun being fired.

A man is thought to have run back inside a house on the street and locked himself in.

Specialist firearms officers are negotiating with the man who is believed to be alone.

People living in the area have been advised to stay indoors while police deal with the situation, and a number or roads have been closed.
