A collision between a train and a maintenance rail trolly have left rail workers "extremely shaken".
The incident occurred near Hadnall and involved the 22.26 Manchester to Shrewsbury service, which was carrying engineering equipment at the time.
Only two people were on board at the time, and there are no reports of any injuries.
A British Transport Police spokeswoman said:
A woman and child have been seriously injured after a train from Lincoln struck the car they were travelling in on a level crossing at Finningley.
Police have said that no one on board the train were injured in the accident.
