Northampton Town have signed Leicester City midfielder Ryan Watson on loan until January.

The 20-year-old joined Leicester a year ago, and has been part of their development squad since.

Ryan is a player we have tracked since last Christmas. I have seen him play at least half a dozen times and he has impressed me.

He is an all round good midfield player. He gets about the park, he is strong in the tackle and he can pass the ball well. He wants to come and play senior football and that is a really refreshing attitude.

We have tried to bring him in before and I am really pleased we have been able to get the loan completed now. Thanks to Leicester City for allowing us to borrow Ryan, there is a good relationship between the clubs. They know we will look after him, he will help us and he will also gain valuable experience at the same time.

Northampton Town striker Alex Nicholls has joined League Two strugglers Exeter City on a month's loan.

The 26-year-old has missed the last 22 months after suffering a horrific double leg break, and will hope to get first team football in Devon.

Nicholls signed a new contract with the Cobblers this summer.

"Alex has done wonderfully well to get back to where he is now.

The next stage for him is to be playing regular first team football and this move will give him the opportunity to do that.

Playing regularly will help him, we will monitor his progress closely and we wish him every success in the next few weeks."

Ipswich Town could now be set to keep star striker David McGoldrick after Premier League club Leicester City refused to meet the club's valuation.

Manager Mick McCarthy confirmed over the weekend that a bid had been submitted by the Foxes, but they appear to have now dropped their interest.

It's understood that Town were asking for a fee in the region of £8million for McGoldrick, who scored 16 goals in The Championship last season.

However, Crystal Palace are also reportedly interested in signing the former Nottingham Forest man, although they could move for Leicester's Chris Wood instead.

Northampton Town has signed Bradford City goalkeeper Matt Duke on a two year contract.

Duke played in the Premier League in a seven year stay at Hull City earlier in his career before a switch to Bradford City in August 2011. During his two years at Bradford, Duke played 52 games.

"Matt was always our number one keeping target this summer and I am delighted we have got him," said Northampton Town boss Aidy Boothroyd.

"We have done well to get Matt. We wanted an experienced keeper and Matt fits the bill perfectly."
