Bobby Roberts was convicted on three counts of unnecessary suffering also of failing to prevent an employee from repeatedly beating the animal.
The 69-year-old who ran Super Circus in Cambridgeshire also failed to ensure the elephant was given medication for her arthritis.
His wife Moira, 75, was cleared of all three charges by District Judge David Chinnery following a five-day trial at Northampton Crown Court

A gang of metal thieves who are thought to have stolen more than £31,000 worth of property from businesses across the Black Country have been jailed.
This police helicopter footage shows the gang being tracked down after they broke into a building in Brierley Hill.
They were arrested nearby as they scrambled up railway embankments trying to escape. The gang stole metal, diesel and other property from businesses across the area.
They were jailed for five years and four months in total.
