Detective Superintendent Richard Baker from West Midlands Police has described William 'Bill' Davis as a "fiercely independent" father to two, grandfather to four and great grandfather to one:
"Bill used to go into Willenhall on a weekly basis. He tended his own garden and maintained his home on his own. He was very well known in the local community and used to stop and chat to his neighbours".
Chief Inspector Mike O'Hara, from Walsall local policing unit, said: "We are providing essential patrols and reassurance to the local area and understand the devastating impact this can have on such a tight knit community.

The 51-year-old was last seen a week ago.
The 89-year-old was asleep when the men smashed through the patio doors. A second break-in was also reported in the area that evening.
A man of the same address has been charged with her murder.
