The body of Corporal Brent John McCarthy, from Priorslee was brought back to RAF Brize Norton today.
The 25-year-old was killed when two people wearing Afghan police uniforms opened fire on Saturday at a patrol base in Helmand.
Friend Claire Millman, from Telford, said: "He was a great brother and a fantastic uncle. His mother and father are incredible parents and my heart pains for them and everyone else that loved him dearly."
Corporal McCarthy leaves his father John, mother Sarah, sister Jodie, partner Sarah and niece and nephew Miajay and Kyron.

His driving that night has been described by police as "careless" and resulted in a "needless loss of life."
