The health trust which runs Stafford and Cannock Chase hospitals is to get expert advice to try and turn its finances around.
The independent health regulator Monitor says the Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust needs help with accounting, administration and legal services.
It says it is to protect health services for patients. The results of a public inquiry into standards of care at Stafford Hospital are due next month, after hundreds of patients died unnecessarily between 2005 and 2008.
