Rail union warns against Government 'resistance to public ownership'

The rail union RMT has warned ministers they are stepping 'into another legal and operational quagmire' if they oppose public ownership of rail companies.

RMT say they have been told the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) have been lobbying the Government against a counter plan to take the West Coast into public ownership through Directly Operated Railways (DOR), the nationalised outfit currently running the East Coast.

The West Coast Mainline will be run by Virgin Trains until at least 2017, it's been announced.
