'Lost' thieves use maps to steal from victims

A group of thieves in Wolverhampton are stealing from their victims by pretending to be lost and using maps as a distraction.

Police say there have been three thefts of this kind since the middle of September.

The thieves generally approach a victim stood alone in public and show them a map asking for directions while telling them they cannot speak English.

As the victim, which is usually someone over 65, explains the route the thieves work together to steal from them.

Police are urging people to be cautious:

"I want people to be aware of this tactic and to remain cautious.

“I also want to hear from anyone who has any information about who may be responsible for these offences.”
