Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert said he was proud of his players and believes the fans were too, following their 3-2 defeat to league leaders Manchester United at Villa Park on Saturday.
He said: "I think we have been playing well. We can take a lot of belief from that performance."
Villa were 2-0 up after 50 minutes thanks to Andreas Weimann but an own goal from Vlaar and two strikes from Javier Hernandez sealed the three points for United.
Paul Lambert added: "I think the fans will give the players time. The fans know football. They were brought up with football. The future's really good."
