Derby Hospitals create awareness of use of antibiotics

Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is backing a Government campaign to help people understand the use of antibiotics.

It aims to highlight the importance of taking antibiotics responsibly, calling for GPs to administer them appropriately.

The reason for this, is to help people understand that antibiotics only work in treating bacterial infections and not viral infections, such as coughs and colds.

“Antibiotic resistance is now an everyday problem in hospitals. As resistance in bacteria grows it will become more difficult to treat infection. At Derby Hospitals we ensure that antibiotics are used responsibly by good antibiotic prescribing which will help to reverse the growing trend of antimicrobial resistance to keep antibiotics effective for the use of future generations.”
