A charity based in Peterborough has warned that kidney patients need to get vaccinated against winter flu to reduce the risk of them developing serious health complications.
Kidney Research UK says renal patients should get the seasonal flu jab.
– Peter Storey, a director at the Peterborough-based charity
"Thousands of people in the UK are at increased risk from winter flu because of pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and kidney disease, to name just a few.
"We can't stress enough the importance of getting vaccinated and even kidney patients who feel perfectly healthy should speak to their doctor about receiving the jab. It's free, so make an appointment with your GP."
Nearly 5,000 people die every year after getting the flu, with at-risk groups 11 times more likely to die as a result of the virus.
