Raising awareness on lung cancer in Derbyshire

A giant set of lungs will be on display in Derbyshire today as part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

Aiming to raise awareness of lung cancer, the replica walk-through lungs have been donated to NHS Derby City and Derby City Council's public health department by the Roy Castle Foundation.

According to NHS Derby City and NHS Derbyshire County, figures show that 152 people aged 50 or over were diagnosed with lung cancer in Derby in 2010, with over 120 people dying that year.

GPs from NHS Southern Derbyshire CCG say that survival rates could be improved if people understood how to recognise symptoms early on.
