131 agency workers have lost their jobs today at Perkins, an engineering company in Stafford.
The company said in a statement the losses are regrettable.
"Uncertainty in the global economy has had an impact on our customers' businesses and consequently we are experiencing lower than anticipated production volumes.
We are now taking steps to reduce costs in a variety of ways and position our business for sustainable success. These actions have been shared with our permanent employees and agency workers and will result in a reduced agency workforce at the Stafford site."
"We regret this necessary action; however, it is ultimately in the long-term interests of our business. Our priority is to take the actions that position us for long-term success and profitable growth as well as ensure we are positively positioned for 2013 and beyond."
