Staffordshire Police say flooding on the A38 near Burton-upon-Trent has caused severe congestion. Earlier today (27 November) the northbound carriageway was completely closed between Barton and Clay Mills.
"Severe rush-hour traffic congestion has been caused in surrounding areas, including Lichfield and Burton, as a result of the closures.
"Motorists are warned to avoid the area unless travel is absolutely necessary."
Fifteen more flood warnings and alerts in the Midlands have been removed by the Environment Agency in the past 24 hours.
