It happened yesterday at around 9am, staff at Dartmouth Park spotted someone in the water.
Officers confirmed the man could not be saved and the area was sealed off.
He hasn't been formally identified yet but police believe he lived locally and was in his 40s.
A post mortem will be carried out later today to determine the cause of death.
“The man’s death is currently being treated as a murder investigation and we want to hear from anyone who was in or around Dartmouth Park early yesterday morning and may have seen anything.”
