Malala's dad is named special adviser to UN full report

The father of Malala Yousafzai, the 15 year old girl shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girls to have the right to go to school, has been named a UN special adviser on global education by former prime minister Gordon Brown.

The main part of Ziauddin Yousafzai's role will be to help to get every child to school by the end of 2015.

First public speech for Malala

A 15 year-old girl shot in the head for promoting girls' education in Pakistan will give her first public speech on her birthday. Malala Yousafzai underwent life saving surgery in Birmingham and will speak on Malala day on 12 July.
