Shropshire Council has announced its considering plans to convert Shrewsbury Prison into a hotel.
The Grade II listed building is set to close in April as part of the biggest prison closure scheme in decades.
Shrewsbury Prison is one of six across the country to close under Government plans. The idea is that one 'super prison' will be built in their place.
It is part of a drive to replace older jails and bring down the cost of the prison system and is expected to save £63 million a year.
