Police are urging motorists not to leave their engine running while 'defrosting' their cars. During frosty weather police inevitably receive reports of cars being stolen.
In North West Leicestershire, police are giving away free ice scrapers in a bid to remind motorists not to leave their engines running.
It is an offence to leave an unattended vehicle with the engine running on a public road - it is known as Quitting a Motor Vehicle.
Inspector Chris Brown, Commander of North West Leicestershire local policing unit, said: "On frosty mornings we nearly always have one or more cars stolen because they've been left unattended while defrosting."
