The emergency services were called to a house fire overnight on Holtlands Drive in Alvaston.
The fire service received the call just after 2:30 this morning.
One man was taken to hospital where he later died. All the other people in the house were accounted for.
Firefighters left the scene just before 6.00 but will return later today to carry out further investigations.
