60 years since storm took 42 lives in Lincolnshire

Sixty years ago today the UK suffered one of its worst natural disasters when gales and high tides hit the East coast.

Among the worst areas hit was Lincolnshire where 42 people lost their lives after sea water smashed through coastal defences.

Today survivors and relatives of those who died attended a series of commemorative events to mark the 60th anniversary of the floods.

Devastating Storm Anniversary

It's 60 years today since one of the worst storms to hit the Midlands. On January 31st 1953 severe gales, combined with an unusually high spring tide, caused the sea to surge inland with devastating effects.
