Metal detectors to detect knives at bus station

Temporary airport style metal detectors were installed at West Bromwich bus station yesterday as part of a crack down on knife crime.

Around 500 commuters passed through the detectors, known by police as knife arches, in four hours.

Passengers welcomed the move with one man saying "it's good to see the police doing things like this. It makes you feel safer".

No weapons were found during the operation which police say will take place across the West Midlands in the coming days.
