Texting lorry driver who killed schoolgirl pleads guilty to dangerous driving
A lorry driver who was texting a friend seconds before he killed a schoolgirl as she crossed the road on her bicycle has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.Darren Foster, 38, crashed into Hope Fennell, 13, as she rode across a pedestrian crossing – crushing her under the wheels of his HGV.
Foster deleted text messages from his phone that he had sent while driving during the rush hour traffic in a bid to cover his tracks while the teenager lay dying.
Hope was declared dead at the scene of the accident, which happened on Kings Heath High Street, Birmingham, on November 7 2011.
