Murder inquiry launched following death of elderly man

A murder investigation is underway after the death of an elderly man in Kirkby-in Ashfield.

The victim, in his 70s, was attacked at his home in Cornerpin Drive at around 9pm on Sunday.

He collapsed and later died at hospital.

A post-mortem examination revealed he sustained an aneurism, but the cause of death is not yet known.

Detectives believe a white man, of medium to heavy build, wearing dark clothing with a black hat or hood and a sleeveless, yellow high-visibility jacket may have been involved in the assault.

We are still trying to establish the facts of what happened here, but it seems the victim was attacked in his home by a lone offender.
