Justice Minister: 'It's not for us to decide where Richard III's remains are reburied'

Ministers denied tonight that it was for them to decide where the remains of Richard III should be laid to rest.

Justice Minister Lord McNally, said it was not for the Government or the Ministry of Justice to decide where the King's remains will be reinterred.

In a written reply, he said it was for the University of Leicester to determine where the remains should be reburied.

The city of York is campaigning to have their King's remains reburied in the city.

Judicial review for Richard III's final resting place

A group of relatives of King Richard III, whose body was unearthed from a council car park last year, have won the right to bring High Court proceedings to challenge a plan to rebury his remains in Leicester.
