Chairman at Stafford Hospital says administration is a significant step

Professor John Caldwell, Chairman at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust, has released a statement in response to today's announcement that Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust may be put into Administration.

Regulator Monitor said it may "safeguard services" for local patients.

Today’s announcement by Monitor of a consultation on the appointment of a Trust Special Administrator (TSA) for the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust (MSFT) is a significant step.

The prime concern of the present board has been to ensure the delivery of safe and sustainable services of high quality to the communities served by our hospitals at Cannock and Stafford.

We have accepted for some time that Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust working alone cannot produce a long lasting solution to the issues we face to ensure financial and clinical sustainability.

We will continue to work with our regulators and commissioners to deliver the services they require to our local community.

Stafford report delay

The administrators of Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust have been granted more time to prepare a report into how the trust should be run. The trust runs Stafford Hospital, where hundreds of patients died needlessly between 2005 and 2009.
