The last time Sgt Colin Evans was seen was yesterday morning as he left King's Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.
The 51-year-old had been discharged after receiving treatment for a back and shoulder injury at work.
At this stage there is no indication he was suffering from concussion.
Chief Insp Paul Winter told ITV News Central that at this stage there is no suggestion of foul play, or that there were any problems at home. Although he did confirm that Sgt Evans had been experiencing a stressful time at work.
His wife Magita, and his daughter who lives in Spain, are said to be very distressed at his disappearance and are being comforted by friends and colleagues.
